Over the past 12 months we've had the chance to work on some pretty fun projects. This past weekend in Saskatoon, some of those projects were recognized at the 2014 Elevators Awards.

The Elevators are Saskatchewan's premier design awards, where the most compelling work in our province is showcased. And gosh darnit, we're pretty excited to announce we went home with some hardware!

As you may or may not know, our office has been closed since noon on Dec 20th but when my alarm sounded this morning at 6am, it was surprisingly easy to get up and at-er after sleeping in until 10am for the past 16 days.

I woke up with a jump in my step, eager to get back to the office, and not just because I was excited to make the healthy breakfast shake as part of my typical new years resolution.

It was because I had the chance to rejuvenate my creative juices during the Christmas break. A chance to re-focus my energy, both in my career and in my personal life. I guess you could say it’s like a mini sabbatical that comes ones a year.

We speak so much about “branded content” and how this is quickly becoming the new wave of advertising. It can be a hard concept to grasp at first, and if you learn like the way I do, real world examples help make the case. So, here’s one...

September hits, and we’ve all become a little run down. The elm trees on Rae Street begin to turn an amber shade, and the mornings start to become a bit darker. Everyone in the office longs for a little pick me up. Thank goodness for our annual Look Matters Staff retreat - a chance to hit the “reset” button. In some ways, it marks the end of another successful year at Look Matters.

“Buy me some peanuts and cracker jacks.”  Those words will always be associated with the great game of baseball.  A sport that has been loved by Americans for over a century. Teams that have been around since the early 1900’s.  There is so much rich history in baseball.  But how many baseball clubs are staying true to their coveted heritage?

I recently took a vacation to Chicago and New York, mainly for music festivals, deep-dish pizza and shopping.  But, while I was visiting our neighbours to the south, I got the chance to take in a Cubs game in Chicago and a Yankee’s game in New York.  Two drastically different experiences.

So, a few of my colleagues and I woke up really early this past Thursday, hit the McDonald’s drive through like it was our last meal on the planet and hit the highway for MoSo Conference 2013 in Saskatoon.

Between Instagram-ing and Vine-ing on the way up, we planned our conference out by going over the list of speakers and keynotes, highlighting the ones we really wanted to attend.  As we mapped out our MoSo experience, I don’t think any of us recognized the amount of value we’d get from this year's conference.

There was a buzz going around last Thursday, and no it’s not the one from Home Alone.  Thursday was staff picture day here at Look Matters.  Staff picture day is completely different than the pictures you received while you were in grade school; these photos are fun, easy, and entirely enjoyable, and its always interesting to see an even quirkier side to an already wild bunch of people.  The act of getting together and taking some professionally done photos that reflect our personalities ends up being a lot of fun, and in case you were not yet aware, it also has some incredible value.
