25th Anniversary Campaign &
6 Billionth Container

Background:

SARCAN Recycling provides environmental protection, employment creation and economic development through a province-wide network of recycling beverage containers, paint and electronics. SARCAN was founded in 1988 by SARC, the province-wide association that provides supports and services to organizations that serve people with disabilities throughout the province of Saskatchewan. SARCAN is approaching two milestones and they wanted to celebrate: its 25th anniversary, and also the return of its 6 billionth can.

Objective:

Create a new identity for SARCAN that would bring some life to the brand, adding colour and modern design. SARCAN has been around for 25 years and we need to make sure that Saskatchewan knows it will be going strong for another 25! As well, SARCAN wanted to make a splash with its announcement of the 6th billionth can, something memorable and fun, much like the brand itself.

Process:

The SARCAN team is full of fun and exciting people, and they wanted a brand that would reflect that. By adding modern typography, bright colors, and contemporary yet simple design elements we were able to breath life into the SARCAN brand. All of this stemmed from their new tagline of “Many Happy Returns” playing off an age-old saying, we were able to capture the heart of what SARCAN was about.

For the 6 billionth can we wanted to make a splash and try something non-traditional that could be reused (pardon the pun) over social media channels and other mediums. We landed on a live announcement, which saw one lucky customer in the mist of a celebration when they found out that they were responsible for recycling the 6 billionth aluminum can. We were able to film the entire event, allowing the moment to live online and be remembered forever.
